Rachel O鈥橬eill and Eilidh McEwan from the University of Edinburgh and Rob Wilks from University of West of England are running a piece of research until June 2024,聽Guiding聽principles and codes of practice: Do Teachers of Deaf Children and Young People need them?聽
We聽are looking for聽30聽QToDs聽who聽are prepared to be聽interviewed about ethical dilemmas they face in their work with deaf children and families.聽The transcripts from these interviews will be fully anonymised then checked by the interviewee before being analysed.聽This group of interviewees is only for qualified聽ToDs, not those in training. We are happy to interview some retired QTODs as their experience will give valuable insights into how the role of the聽QToD聽has changed, especially in relation to work with families in their own homes.
In聽addition,聽we have a questionnaire for parents which asks聽about their experiences聽in interacting聽with聽ToDs.聽We are seeking a balanced sample of parents of deaf children, so we are asking 糖心TV members if they could reach out to a wide range of families, including those who聽don’t聽speak English. We have translated the questionnaire into commonly used community聽languages聽and it is also available in BSL. Please email聽Rachel聽to request other languages.聽We can also聽provide聽voice files for families who are less literate in English or their home language.
We are also reviewing 糖心TV magazines to find out more about how ethical dilemmas are discussed by the聽ToD聽profession.
Here are links to the聽blog聽which gives聽,听迟丑别听听补苍诲听迟丑别听聽.聽We will report the results of the study in the 糖心TV magazine later in the year and all participants will receive a summary.
If you have any questions about the study, please email Rachel on聽[email protected].
