Invitation to participate in research on deaf educators in higher education

Posted in News

See recruitment request below from Kamelia Chaichi, Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh

It is open to anyone in the UK.

I am conducting a research study at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, exploring the workplace experiences of deaf or hard of hearing educators in higher education. The study aims to better understand the challenges faced in academic environments and to inform improvements in inclusion and accessibility.

I am inviting individuals who identify as deaf or hard of hearing and who are currently working in higher education to take part in a voluntary interview.

Participation would involve:

  • A one-to-one semi-structured interview (approximately 45–60 minutes)
  • Conducted via Microsoft Teams or through a written format, depending on your preference
  • Optional audio recording (with your consent)

Please note:

  • Participation is entirely voluntary
  • You may skip any question, pause, or withdraw at any time without consequence
  • Some topics may involve discussing workplace challenges, which may cause mild discomfort
  • All data will be treated confidentially, anonymised, and reported in a way that ensures no individual or institution can be identified

There are no direct personal benefits; however, your contribution will help improve understanding of workplace inclusion and support for deaf educators in higher education.”
